Alistair Mitchell first moved to Boston in January 1988, after qualifying from Edinburgh University in 1982.

Alistair's goal was to offer a value for money, quality and friendly service to our clients.  We have an absolute commitment to the pets'  welfare.

Our aim is to provide the best possible care for your pets provided by a team of people who really care.

We work as a team from vets, nurses, receptionists and cleaners to help your animals in all their health problems.

  • Hip and elbow scoring for BVA scheme.

  • Ultrasound for diagnostics and pregnancy.
  • Blood testing for progesterone levels (1/2hr results).
  • Free advice for worm/flea & weight control.
  • Free puppy and kitten health checks.
  • In house routine blood testing.
  • Fully Equipped Sterile Operating Theatre.

CONSULTATIONS

Consultations are by appointment only to try and reduce waiting times and any unnecessary stress to your pets.  Any emergency will always  be seen on the day and as soon as possible.

OPERATIONS

All procedures are performed under sterile conditions with modern, safe anaesthetics, up to date monitoring equipment and a team of experienced, trained vets and nurses.  We do advise pre-operative blood tests in some cases to diagnose any problems that may increase the anaesthetic risk.

HOME VISITS

We are more than happy to visit your pet at home, but in an emergency we cannot transport all of our equipment, some pets are also more difficult to handle at home as they are protecting you.

We do have a list of local taxi firms that will transport you and your pets, some of which specialise in animal transportation.

(This little Pygmy goat, "Jago" owned & bred by Chris & Penny Renn was born at Pilgrim Vets)

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

We would appreciate if  you could order your repeat prescriptions 24hrs in advance.

This means that firstly, you won't have to wait as your medication will be ready for collection, secondly our nurses won't be rushing to get your prescription ready.

If your pet is on long term medication we like to check them every 3-6 months, this is because we are legally obliged to do this but more importantly to make sure he/she is progressing well on the medication.  If there is a problem with this, e,g, If he/she is terrified of coming to the vets then please have a chat with the vet.

FEES

Your pets will always come first at Pilgrim Vets before money, however we do have bills and really good caring staff who need paying.

So the easiest, most efficient way is for everybody to pay at time of treatment.  If you have a problem with this please speak to our receptionist team before seeing the vet.

Pilgrim Veterinary Surgery was set up in 1988 by Alistair Mitchell with the intention to provide the best possible care for the pets around Boston.
